What is the Most TERRIFYING truth of the Bible?
The Answer is God is Good. If you really think about this it should terrify you! The problem is God is good and we are not. What is a good God supposed to do to bad people?
GOD is Creator – In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.
GOD is Holy – Your eyes are too pure to approve evil, and You cannot look on wickedness with favor.
Habakkuk 1:13 But your iniquities have made a separation between you and your God, and your sins have hidden His face from you so that He does not hear. Isaiah 59:2
GOD is Righteous – God is a righteous judge, and a God who has indignation every day. If a man does not repent, He will sharpen His sword; He has bent His bow and made it ready. Psalm 7:11-12
For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. Romans 3:23 For all of us have become like one who is unclean, and all our righteous deeds are like a filthy garment… Isaiah 64:6
None is righteous, no, not one; no one understands; no one seeks for God. Romans 3:10-11
THE GREAT DILEMMA – He who justifies the wicked and he who condemns the righteous, both of them alike are an abomination to the LORD. Proverbs 17:15
DO YOU SEE THE PROBLEM? God is creator and has claim over His creation. Since God is so good, He cannot over look just one sin. We are all sinners by nature. All we have done is sin. Sin separates us from a holy God. If separated from God what can you do to save yourself? What will you do with the problem of your sin? How can a just God forgive a rebellious sinner like you?
THE GOOD NEWS is that this God sent his Son Christ Jesus into the world. He became flesh and dwelt with us. (Jn 1:14)He was born of a virgin. (Mt 1:18-25) God became man and lived a perfect life. This fulfilled the law of God. Jesus Died on the cross. On the cross Jesus took the wrath of God in the place of all who believe in Him alone. ( 1 Cor 5:21) It pleased the Father to crush the Son. (Is 53:10) Jesus was imputed the sins of all believers and believers in return received His perfect righteousness. Jesus rose on the third day and is alive today! He rose for our justification and now sits next to the Father in heaven. (Rm 5:8-10) This is how one is restored from their sin back to God.
OUR RESPONSE: Jesus said, “Repent and believe in the gospel (Mk 1:15).” Repentance begins with a recognition and confession that what God says is true: He will not excuse the guilty, we are all sinners, & Christ has died for our sins. A genuine recognition of our sinfulness and guilt will also lead to genuine sorrow, shame and even hatred for what we have done. Apparent sincerity of confession alone is never definite evidence of genuine repentance. It must be accompanied by a turning away from sin. One must put their faith in Jesus alone for salvation. Jesus said, “My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me” (Jn 10:27). It’s not just a onetime prayer it is a whole new lifestyle. Repent and believe the good news today, because the truth is-YOU MAY NOT HAVE TOMORROW!
